KTM EXC XC-W XC SX Electric Starter Bush Upgrade Bushing Kit TPI TBI
Kits for all KTM 2-Stroke models, including 300 250 200 150 TBI TPI Carby & Freeride models.
These high quality bushings will significantly outlast the factory PTFE coated split bushings.
The factory bushings on these bikes are known to wear out quickly, and KTM’s service schedule recommends inspection/replacement every 40 hours of use. Failure to replace the factory bushings regularly will lead to damage to the Bendix, crown gear, starter motor, flywheel, ignition cover and engine casing. This can be an extremely expensive repair bill.
Using these upgraded bushings will significantly improve the reliability, efficiency and lifetime of your entire electric starter system.
The installation procedure for these bushings is very simple and there are many youtube videos available on the procedure. This kit comes with the required bushings and some further instructions. Installation is simple with some basic mechanics tools. We recommend to use some retaining compound during installation such as Loctite 638 or Loctite 648.

Some other ways to get the best out of the troublesome Pre-2017 KTM 2-stroke electric starter system:
- Upgrade to the newer 410W KTM starter motor (Part Number: 551 40 001 100)
- Correctly check/shim crown gear (Part Number: 0988 081401)
- Upgrade the Bendix and crown gear to parts from the 2015/2016 bike (Part Numbers: 551 40 026 400 and 551 40 022 300)
- Use a high quality lithium battery with high CCA rating
